What actually matters when choosing a bulk edit app
Merchants usually compare bulk edit apps on the wrong axis: install count. Install count says nothing about whether the app will preserve your prices at midnight on Black Friday. The axes that matter are operational: does it show you the change before it commits, does it record what changed so you can undo, does it protect you from your own typos with safety limits, and does it cover the fields you actually edit — prices, tags, status, tax, SEO, alt text — or only some of them.

When the native bulk editor is enough
For a filtered list of a few hundred products where you just need to inline-edit one or two columns, Shopify's built-in bulk editor is fine. It is fast, it lives inside the admin you already use, and it doesn't need a separate app. Its limits are structural: no preview, no undo, no safety limits, no rounding — so any change more complicated than 'set this field on this filtered list' will eventually bite you.
When CSV is the right tool
CSV is the right choice for one-off events: an initial catalog import, a migration between stores, a wholesale price refresh from a supplier's spreadsheet. It scales to any catalog size and gives you a diffable snapshot. It is the wrong choice for recurring operational changes because it has no preview and no undo — one misplaced column overwrites the wrong field silently across your whole catalog.
